The essay gives students a choice of prompts, asking them to share their understanding of conformity and individualism, the American identity, the influence of religion throughout literature, and the changing American Dream. Students use authors and texts throughout the course to support their claims.
One is “the American Dream is corrupted by the desire for wealth” and the other is “the Attainment of a dream may be less satisfying than the pursuit of it”. He uses those themes to show how The Great Gatsby is a satire of American Ideals. The American dream is life should be better and richer and fuller for one.
